Instant vs. Delayed Gratification

I know we all want results with nutrition or fitness goals like PRONTO (cue me checking out my stomach to see if I have abs yet after 1 set)

But it’s that seeking of instant gratification that often leads to endless frustration, discouragement, and disappointment.

The truth is if you REALLY want to change your physique, you have to start from the inside.

Because your mentality around overall wellness and why you want health for your body, has to transform first.

Sure we get enticed by all the quick promises and incredible results in X little amount of time.. and we may even try it.

But unless we’re committed to changing our LIFE, like all the layers of it, prioritizing it and continually working to improve, all those flashy plans and unrealistic promises won’t last.

Plus there’s a whole lot of pride and joy that comes from developing healthy routines and regimens.

My point here is that long-lasting progress toward your “sustainable body” may feel like it’s happening at a snail pace.

But if you don’t have a bigger reason for doing it all in the first place, it’s going to be easy to keep falling off over and over again.

I want to build strength to power my body through workouts I love that make me feel alive.

I want energy to do everything I want during the day with zest, not while feeling drained and depleted.️

I want endurance so when my body is called upon a challenge, like spontaneously hiking up an advanced terrain trail, I know it will step up to the task.

These pictures are 4 months apart. Four months where I’ve been committed to my nutrition (far from perfect), to my training (only possible thanks to my nutrition), and to moving with ease (shooting for 10k steps but not stressing the lighter days).

I have as busy a schedule as anyone and sometimes I workout at 2am to get it in, but I have daily non-negotiables in my life and my physical and mental wellness are ones I never skimp on.

If you want change in your life you have to embrace the slow game, connect to the deeper reasons for why you’re even doing it at all, and IMMERSE yourself in your journey so it extends to all areas of your life. It isn’t just about the food or workouts.

And for those who need to see this - I am HEAVIER in the picture on the right. If I would’ve let the scale dictate my motivation and pursuit and given up, I would never have been this dang proud of the girl on the right building biceps and taking names ;)
