Dealing With Food Guilt From The Weekend
For anyone who needs to see this after a weekend and is holding onto food guilt or frustration with your eating...
Just being completely open and transparent - I had a great weekend and the weather here in New Jersey was beautiful, but today I was feeling the effects of eating anything (and everything), overeating, emotional eating, and physically and mentally not feeling great because of it.
What I hope everyone can appreciate is that I, nor anyone else, is perfect and despite coming milestones in my own personal journey with food and body, I still struggle too. There is not a "cure" for these challenges, but fortunately there are very specific strategies that work every time to get me back on my path and not "stuck" or "snowballing" - making a difficult eating weekend, turn into continued patterns of old, unwanted habits.
What I will NOT do:
I will NOT be "starting over" today or tomorrow, or "Monday." I teach that our journey is a continuum, and while each day is a chance to re-focus, shift gears, and have new "eating opportunities," I banish the idea of constantly "starting over."
I will NOT be severely restricting foods or food groups, or label ANY food as "bad" or off limits.
I will NOT feel like I have to compensate for what I did "wrong" over the weekend - meaning, I will not over-exercise or decrease my calorie intake today to "make up for it."
What I WILL do instead:
I WILL focus on hydrating my body - not just by getting enough water, but by fully hydrating with adequate vitamins, minerals and amino acids.
I WILL incorporate protein and veggies with every meal because I know this will help me stay satiated and feel full/satisfied. I won't let my body get too hungry today (a recipe for disaster and to put me right back into the cycle).
I WILL focus on movement and doing things I enjoy, especially outdoors.
I WILL make a Sweet Swap by using clean ingredients, because I noticed my sweet tooth is in full swing right now. I'm making pumpkin protein balls so I have a great option to reach for when that craving hits.
I WILL have a full dinner tonight for my last meal, and wind down before bed with a warm beverage (plant milk + spices). My late-night eating has been triggered, so I am going to have a dinner that leaves me satisfied, and soothe and signify the end of my day of eating today, with a warm drink I will sip.. instead of continuing to snack in the kitchen after dinner.
I hope some of you can relate to this if you had a weekend that felt a little out of control with eating, like mine was. Our journey isn't about doing it right every single day, it's about knowing how to right the ship when it steers a bit off of the path we are looking to stay on.
